Veterinarians remind owners to update dogs' vaccinations

Over the past 10 days, one local veterinarian has seen six cases of parvovirus, a disease that eats away at the lining of the small intestine and is a leading killer of dogs younger than 1. Although experts don't think there's an outbreaks they are reminding dog owners to be aware of the symptoms and the need for shots.

ESCANABA - In an effort to be healthy and raise awareness about animal welfare, a cross-country bicycle trip brought an inspiring young man and his dog to Escanaba this week. David Sylvester, 26, and his dog, Chiva, 3, embarked on their bicycle journey from Seattle, on March 13. The two have since logged in 3,800 miles in nine states.
